DNHRD Visit to Tereora College

1 June 2011:  The two schools HTTC and CITTC along with the TAP visited the national secondary school Tereora College to provide "taster" information on post secondary school options for further studies.  The teams from DNHRD visited the school on Wednesday 1 June 2011.

Over 70 students currently studying towards their national New Zealand Certificate in Educational Achievement Level 3 (NCEAL3) attended the presentations.

Pamela Solomona from HTTC provided the students with a pictorial presentation on options for further HTTC studies in hospitality and tourism courses.  Boyd Ellison talked to the students about the benefits of practical based studies with CITTC and gaining trades qualifications in the area of carpentry, automotive, electrical and such.

On the other hand, Michelle Aisake provided a informative presentation on the two main scholarships to study overseas, that current NCEAL3 students may be eligible to apply for.  This included the new scholarship scheme to New Zealand, the NZAid Pacific Scholarships.

Overall comments received from the students were positive with requests for more information and a second visit to elaborate more on topics presented.

DNHRD would like to thank NCEAL3 dean Ms Moana Ngaata and Principal Mr Teaia Parima for supporting this school visit and ensuring an excellent turnout.  For the past three years, DNHRD has endeavoured to visit Tereora College for this awareness programme and in response also to requests from parents of past NCEAL3 students.
