ABOUT ACITI
The Association of Cook Islands Tertiary Institutes (ACITI)
Te Puna Korero
ACITI is a recognised tertiary education provider according to the New Zealand Education Act 1989 and accredited under the New Zealand Industry Act 1992. ACITI achieved NZQA recognition and accreditation in 2007 and is the first in the Pacific region.
ACITI is managed by DNHRD, located in Arorangi, Rarotonga, COOK ISLANDS. It’s role is to ensure that Quality Assurance is implemented across all training provider’s who are member’s of the Association according to it’s Quality Management System, recognised and approved by NZQA and relevant National Setting Bodies. ACITI also creates qualifications, develop courses and apply to have this recognized and accredited by NZQA.
It is not always necessary to use unit standards to create a course which will lead towards a qualification but in the meantime, unit standards are being used as the foundation blocks of ACITI. In the medium term, we are working towards designing our own home “grown” courses that will build towards NZQA recognised qualification.
ACITI works in partnership with the National Standards Setting Bodies in New Zealand called Industry Training Organisation (ITO) and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
It has developed policies, procedures for recognition and accreditation progressively working alongside the Industry Training Organizations (ITO) and other Tertiary Education Organisations for support.
DNHRD seeks to improve and up-skill Cook Islands human resource capability, improve efficiency of service delivery, strengthen and foster partnerships with customers, accredited institutions, training providers, public and private sector organizations and donor agencies, in order to ensure standards are being established and relevant quality training is being provided.
The training providers who are linked to ACITI are Hospitality Tourism Training Centre - Te Puna Apii Turoto (HTTC), Cook Islands Trades Training Centre - Te Puna o te Kite Karape (CITTC), Cook Islands Sports Academy (CISA), Cook Islands Red Cross, Cook Islands Maritime School, Cook Islands Nursing School, Cook Islands Police Service and the Cook Islands Trading Corporation.
